welcome

Welcome to NeilNathan.com, glad you could stop by.

This site is a warehouse for my songs, pics, videos, and drawings. The player above will stream my recent studio recordings and you can also hear and download my demos for FREE. They often get across the raw emotion of a tune better than a slick recording. And for me, there's nothing cooler than witnessing the birth of a song.

When I first heard the demo to Quicksand on David Bowie's Hunky Dory, one of my favorite albums, it blew my mind. Here was a fellow Capricorn, raw and simple, just vocals and acoustic. And when I heard what Producers Ken Scott and Bowie along with Guitarist Mick Ronson did to flesh it out in the final version, it was a watershed moment in my songwriting. Now I ain't saying I'm Bowie, but feel free to download them, and if you find it in your heart and your wallet, throw me some change by clicking on the Demo Donations Guitar Case, cuz recording ain't cheap!

Click on Faces to see my drawings. They are all off the top of my head and a new one will be posted daily. You can add your two cents in the Comments area. If ya like any of 'em, and they aren't already on my available merch, give me a shout, and I'll do my best to get it on some sort of garment for ya.

If you're looking to discover some new quality music, click on my friends' links at the bottom of this page. There's a fantastic mix of sounds and styles, and they're all great songwriters and musicians.

Thanks so much for visiting.

DATE TIME VENUE CITY
Fri 07.10 7- Midnight Pirate Vinly Presents Summer Songsmiths NYC at Highline Ballroom NY, NY

welcome

Hot on the heels of my Californication Season 2 Soundtrack success, comes The Nearest Future, my second digital only release (alongside Motor City Recordings). Ironically, it was the first batch of songs I recorded as a solo artist back in 2005. It includes the original version of Glide, which was featured in the Rosario Dawson film "Descent." I re-did Glide for the Glide EP, but this version definitely has its charms. All recorded in one session, these three tunes came together quickly in a magical reverby, delay laden gumbo.

The Nearest Future was recorded at NYC's Quad Studios (where Tupac got shot the first time)in mixing maestro Michael Brauer's (Cold Play, My Morning Jacket, Bob Dylan) seriously swanky studio. Some very cool vintage analog delay effects make it all warm and gooey. Keith Gary engineered and produced with Chris Buckle(The Picture) on guitar and Howard Rappaport on pedal steel.

Thanks to Nicole Szaleweski for a brilliantly trippy album cover image.

Download the second tune on the EP, "You're Mine," for free. I gave it away for Valentine's Day and it's yours to keep. Hope ya dig it, it's my ballad of undying love.

what's going on?

My new EP, "The Nearest Future," is available at  iTunes now. Recorded at NYC's Quad Studios (where Tupac got shot the first time)in mixing maestro Michael Brauer's (Cold Play, My Morning Jacket, Bob Dylan) seriously swanky studio. Some very cool vintage analog delay effects make it all warm and gooey. Keith Gary engineered and produced with Chris Buckle(The Picture) on guitar and Howard Rappaport on pedal steel.

Thanks to all who made my Valentine's Day Love and Heartbreak Show at Living Room so special. Twas a beautiful sounding eve and my friend Alan Semerdjian brought his own love in the form of a brillliant record release and powerful video. Click here to see it. You'll be glad you did. In honor of the show, I am giving away a free download of the live debut of the heartbreak tune, Second Hand Sunrise. Hope ya dig.

I am pleased as punch to announce that I have signed a licensing deal with North Star Media! Infinite thanks to Bobby Harlow, Marty Silverstone, Ron Sobel, and Paul Dickman for making it happen. You must now prepare yourself to get sick of hearing my voice 24/7 on any and all films, tv shows, commercials, and video games. North Star Media also represent such notables as The Go, Gutter Twins, Mudhoney, Rod Stewart, Bonnie Raitt, and the one and only, Cher!

Thanks to all who packed the house at Joe's Pub for the Darling Friend Video Release Party.  Darling Friend is the second tune on my covers EP, Songsmiths and is my version of Beethoven's Fur Elise. Infinite thanks to Director and good friend Vaj Potenza (My Brightest Diamond's "Freak Out Gold Chains Remix") who delivered a perfectly pretentious piece of glam folk art. His surreal, NYC, Dia De Los Muertos vibe was supported beautifully by Suzanne Rydz's creepy, bizarro waltz choreography. Ludwig is most definitely turning over in his grave!

My folky cover of ELO's classic "Do Ya" is featured on the Season 2 Soundtrack for Showtime's Californication along with such greats as Warren ZevonNick Cave, and Sheryl Crow! Out now on Lionsgate Records.  Download it on itunes and rejoice with me!

Three of my tunes, Glide, Gone (Fly Away), and The Lucky Ones are featured on the DVD  for the film Descent, directed by my good friend, Talia Lugacy, and starring my old roomie, Rosario Dawson. The NY Times loved it. You will too. Put it on your queue and thank me later.
